The Daughter Condor: Between Andean Tradition and the Dream of the Big Stage
The Filmforum presents the Bolivian feature film The Daughter Condor by Álvaro Olmos Torrico at the Parktheater Lindau. The poetic film narrative leads to a remote Andean community where the young Clara learns the traditional midwifery skills and the inherited Quechua songs from her adoptive mother Ana.
A Coming-of-Age Story in the Heights of the Andes
Clara accompanies Ana in assisting pregnant women from the surrounding villages. Her voice preserves old songs that accompany births and pass on cultural knowledge from generation to generation. At the same time, a desire grows within her to become known as a folklore singer in the city. Between communal responsibility and personal self-realization, a moving conflict arises.
Expansive Landscapes and a Compelling Visual Language
The camera of Nicolás Wong Diaz opens the view to majestic mountain landscapes, clear horizons, and an seemingly boundless sky. The aesthetic experience of the film arises from the contrast between the silent expansiveness of nature, the intimate moments of midwifery, and the auditory presence of the Quechua songs.
Film Art Between Tradition, Modernity and Cultural Identity
Álvaro Olmos Torrico combines precise observational direction with a sensitive engagement with cultural identity, female self-determination, and the transformation of rural communities. The staging does not judge its characters but allows different life designs to be visible side by side. Thus, the drama develops into an artfully condensed reflection on origin, belonging, and departure.
Outstanding International Resonance
The Daughter Condor was awarded Best Film at the Guadalajara Film Festival 2026. At the Málaga Spanish Film Festival 2026, the film received awards for Best Supporting Role and Best Music. The screening will take place in the original version with German subtitles and lasts 103 minutes.
An Artistic Experience for Film Lovers
Visitors can expect a quiet, powerful cinema experience with impressive landscape photography, traditional music, and a subtly nuanced main character. The examination of the work opens perspectives on indigenous culture, female life realities, and the tension between inherited knowledge and modern dreams. Those who wish to experience international film art with cultural depth will find in The Daughter Condor a particularly sustainable evening.
