Funding for Sports Facility in Oberreitnau

326,250 Euros for Lindau: Oberreitnau Sports Field to be Completely Modernized

The city of Lindau is receiving 326,250 euros from the federal program "Renovation of Municipal Sports Facilities" for the sports field in the Oberreitnau district. The Budget Committee of the German Bundestag has released the funds in the first tranche of the so-called "Sports Billion." For Lindau, this is a concrete funding commitment – two other submitted projects were not considered in this round.

What is now planned to be built in Oberreitnau

A comprehensive full development is planned in Oberreitnau, which goes far beyond a simple renovation of the field. In addition to the actual sports field, multifunctional areas as well as a running track and a long jump facility are planned. This means the facility will not only be modernized but also functionally expanded: training and school sports can be more broadly organized, and recreational and club sports will also have additional opportunities to use areas in parallel.

This multiple use is a central point for municipal sports facilities: investments do not only benefit one club or a single sport, but also the daily use by schools, clubs, and the public. For Oberreitnau, this means, in perspective, shorter bottlenecks for training times and an offering that can be more flexibly adapted to different sports and age groups.

Lindau prevails in the funding competition

The funding comes from a nationwide program that supports investment measures for the renovation and modernization of municipal sports facilities. Many projects competed in the current selection – thousands of projects were submitted nationwide. The fact that Oberreitnau has now been selected is also a signal for the city that the project was assessed as worthy of funding in the process.

Mayor Dr. Claudia Alfons sees the commitment as an important signal for the location and the region. With the approved amount of 326,250 euros, the financing from federal funds for this part of the project is firmly planned; the city can thus concretize the next implementation steps for the expansion of the facility.

Other projects remain without funding for now

The other Lindau applications for the stadium and for the Oberreitnau leisure center were not considered in this funding round. Thus, the current federal funding is limited to the Oberreitnau sports field.

Whether the two projects that were not considered will be resubmitted at a later date is to be decided during the 2027 budget consultations. The selection also shows the limits of the program: While it specifically strengthens municipal sports infrastructure, it cannot support every registered project at the same time given the high number of applications.

For Oberreitnau, however, the decision is a tangible step forward: the sports field is to become a more modern, more versatile facility – with additional athletics and multifunctional areas that can support sports in the district more broadly in the long term.
